Firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to remove the vehicle’s roof and make an access point that was large enough to free the woman from the wreck.

Queensland Fire and Rescue officers used hydraulic cutting equipment to remove the vehicle’s roof while an officer crawled into the Corolla to comfort the woman.

Kitchener Street Station Officer Doug Maxwell said the woman’s injuries were minor, but given her advanced age, all precautions were needed to ensure she was safely removed from the vehicle.

“We needed a large access point otherwise it would have been quite traumatic to pull her out,” he said.

SO Maxwell thanked the bystanders who rendered first aid.

“They did a terrific job, not only to reassure the woman but to make the area safe,” he said.
