Showcasing Europe’s latest clean energy innovations, Hyvolution 2024 aims to accelerate the growth of the hydrogen economy in the drive to meet global net-zero targets.

Held at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles, the 8th Hyvolution trade show starts today. 570 exhibitors, 350 speakers, and thousands of visitors are expected, including industry leaders from every aspect of the hydrogen ecosystem.

Aiming to drive Europe’s hydrogen rollout, Hyvolution 2024 has a strong focus on cross-disciplinary solutions designed to address the challenges facing the hydrogen industry. We selected 3 of them.

1/ Parker and their Hydrogen Purification Solution

Global engineering giant Parker has been working on hydrogen applications for more than 50 years. They offer products addressing a wide range of complex needs related to hydrogen production, transport, storage, distribution, and utilization.

At Hyvolution 2024, Parker is showcasing hydrogen purification solutions for the entire hydrogen value chain. It goes from electrolyzers and refueling stations to fuel cells. Its booth displays some of the latest developments in hydrogen technologies including ion exchangers, cathode air filtration, and membrane technology.

Parker’s fuel gas hydrogen generators utilize a proton exchange membrane that increases hydrogen purity. It does so by eliminating the need for liquid electrolytes.

According to Parker Hannifin’s Amir Mahmoud, market development manager clean tech – sales company in France,

“The slightest impurity affects the efficiency of electrolysis, the life of the electrolyzer and the purity of the hydrogen produced”.

After electrolysis, impurities in the produced hydrogen can cause a range of problems. These include abrasion, flow restriction, corrosion, particle exchange, and electrical disturbances.

He adds:

“As the green hydrogen demand increases, so do the requirements for reliability and safety in its usage, which makes hydrogen purification solutions critical in establishing a sustainable hydrogen ecosystem.”

2/ Busch and Their Vacuum Pumps

Busch manufacturers vacuum pumps, blowers, compressors, and systems for all industries and applications. At Hyvolution 2024, Busch is showcasing its two MINK MH vacuum pumps which rely on no direct-contact moving parts. They are designed to address the challenges of recirculating hydrogen inside fuel cells.

Due to its small dimensions, the MINK MH 0018 A can be directly installed inside a hydrogen fuel cell. It ensures dry, oil-free, and contactless operation to prevent hydrogen contamination and enhance efficiency.

The MINK MH range is specifically designed to operate in challenging environments. It offers exceptional resistance to high vibrations and extreme temperature variations.

Applications include transportation (automotive, rail, maritime, aviation), fixed electricity generation (stationary power stations, off-grid applications), mobile applications (heavy and light vehicles), and industrial processes.

In an interview with DirectIndustry, Busch market manager Stefanie Warsitz said:

“The MINK range distinguishes itself with hydrogen approval, robust design, resistance to extreme conditions, dynamic regulation, and specific certifications, making it an ideal solution for hydrogen recirculation in fuel cells. Its versatility makes it indispensable for hydrogen recirculation in fuel cells, playing a vital role in advancing clean and efficient energy solutions.”

3/ Bosch Rexroth and Their Hydraulic Compression Solutions

The Bosch Group has been contributing for many years to the decarbonization of the energy supply by offering highly energy-efficient systems.

At Hyvolution 2024, Bosch Rexroth is presenting its hydraulic compression solutions designed for hydrogen refueling stations.

To be able to refuel vehicles quickly and smoothly, hydrogen must be compressed on-site to up to 900 bar. This requires a high availability and high-efficiency compression process. Bosch Rexroth’s compact container-based compression solutions offer high efficiency, high power density, precise control, durability and reliability.

Bosch Rexroth supplies low-maintenance, scalable systems solutions with electrohydraulic drives, power electronics, and automatic seal changes. Compared with the alternatives in the market, its container-based compressors have the potential to cut operators’ costs of ownership by one-half.
