A teenage boy was arrested after allegedly threatening an employee of a Katherine service station with a knife, and robbing the business, NT Police said.

Acting Sergeant Caleb Van Duinen said in a statement that police allege the 16-year-old boy entered the service station on Katherine Terrace about 4.50am Tuesday, armed with a knife, and threatened an employee before stealing unspecified items and leaving.

He was arrested a short time later and was in custody, with charges expected on Tuesday, police said.

The employee, who contacted the police immediately after the incident, was not injured.

“The quick response and apprehension of the youth almost certainly prevented further offending from occurring. Police will continue to work tirelessly to put offenders before the courts and keep the community safe,” Sgt Van Duinen said.
