A persistent mystery smell has forced emergency crews back to Bundaberg East, less than 24 hours after evacuations were ordered in the same area.
Reports of the mystery odour came in after 12pm Thursday with emergency services en route to investigate.
A spokesman for the Queensland Fire Department said one crew was on scene conducting atmospheric tests following additional reports of a lingering fuel-like smell on Princess St.
These fresh concerns come one day after police declared a Public Safety Preservation Act following similar reports.
On Wednesday August 28, police declared the PSPA around 10.20am, establishing an exclusion zone encompassing Princess Street, Mary Street, Victoria Street and Anne Street.
Access to the usually busy Princess St was blocked off for a number of hours before the PSPA was revoked about 1.30pm.
Earlier in the day a crews searched the sewerage system beneath Princess tt in an effort to find the source of the leak.
Tests were done on a drain sample taken by a scientific fire crew.
Paramedics assessed 15 people for chemical or fume inhalation, no transportations to hospital were made.
