The war in the Middle East is now in its fourth week, spreading to Europe and escalating across the region after the US and Israel launched air strikes against Iran, killing Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and senior leaders.
The strikes, dubbed Operation Epic Fury, have sent shockwaves through sectors from shipping to air travel and oil, amid rising energy costs and disruption to business in the strategic waterway, a global trade hub.
Queensland premier David Crisafulli has called on federal government to focus on “long term plans” to combat fuel insecurities.
The premier spoke to LNP members at the State Council conference on Sunday, saying the focus should be brought on drilling and oil refinery options here in Australia.
“Never again should we be in this position,” he said.
“I want to see a return to a time when this nation was prepared to drill and refine and store fuel.
“We must do that, and we must begin that plan now.”
Crisafulli also called on the federal government to implement a national fuel dashboard with “clear and consistent information on the flow of fuel across the country”.
“We want it at the same time each day,” he said.
“We want to give Australians clarity during this crisis.
“Australians need coordinated, consistent and clear information on fuel.”
