Adelaide eyesore to be revived with fast food and EV chargers

Mick Skorpos Petrol Discount King on Marion Rd at Park Holme has been abandoned for more than a decade, boarded up and covered in graffiti — a frightful sight next-door to Ascot Park Primary School.

However, a revival could be on the cards after Agostino Group put forward a development application last month.

The old servo will be partially demolished and rebuilt with new additions to once again turn it into an operating petrol station, this time with an added fast-food drive-through.

New fuel tanks, pumps, and electric vehicle charging stations will be added to the site too, as well as fresh fencing, lighting and parking.

Though the development documents don’t disclose what brand of fast-food or service station it would become, Agostino Group owns the AMPM Convenience Stores and service stations, as well as Subway and Carl’s Jr in South Australia.

Marion Mayor Kris Hanna said the abandoned petrol station had been an “eyesore for too many years”.

“The whole community is very pleased to see something positive come out of this,” he said.

“It sounds like it’s going to be a service station with more convenience than most. And we know that people are time short and they’re going to be very attracted to convenience.”

Mr Hanna said it was a “great location” for a service station with “tens of thousands of cars” travelling along Marion Rd daily.

A development application for the new service station was lodged on April 2, however, planning consent was submitted back on December 16.

It was referred to both the Commissioner of Highways and the Environment Protection Authority for approval. PlanSA is yet to publish the response.

Building consent applications will be submitted once planning consent is approved.
