Owner and Managing Director of Riordan Fuels Robert Riordan has announced his retirement from the company’s daily operations, effective February 28, 2025.

Riordan founded the company in 1965 when he purchased the Shell Distributorship for Southwestern Victoria and his first service station in Colac.

His step into retirement is one made in great health and to allow time for a successful management transition for the business.

General Manager Fuels Brent Squires, Chief Commercial Officer Mark Lewis and Managing Director of Riordan Group Jim Riordan will take control of the business following Robert’s retirement.

“Our locally owned, family-operated business will continue to serve you well, and I thank you for your patronage over the years,” Riordan wrote in a letter to customers.

“I wish you all the best in your business endeavours.”

Riordan Fuels has grown into one of Victoria’s leading private and independent fuel distributors and is a large customer of Viva Energy’s Geelong refinery.

It now boasts an extensive unmanned tank and bulk distribution network across Victoria and Southern NSW.

Riordan was awarded an Order of Australia Medal for his contributions to the fuel industry, Water Authority Boards, Marcus Oldham College and his generous support of regional communities in 2022.
