HERBERT MP Ewen Jones has called for an immediate investigation of high fuel prices in Townsville after the city was snubbed in the corporate watchdog’s latest probe of regional markets.

It comes after Cairns was named the fourth regional location to be studied by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission as part of petrol price monitoring arrangements introduced by the Federal Government in December 2014.

Mr Jones has asked the ACCC to undertake an immediate investigation into Townsville’s petrol market due to “sustained high prices and major disparity between prices” compared to southeast and other regional areas.
