UPDATE 10.12.2020 following change to include all COVIDSafe Plan businesses in the Check In program

As part of the effort to enhance contact tracing the SA Government has provided businesses with a QR Code and system to capture customer check-in data. The requirements for businesses to gather customer data vary depending on the business, the SA Government has provided its QR Codes…but do service stations have to collect customer data?

The short answer is yes. All businesses required to have a COVIDSafe Plan are required to display prominently near the entry, the QR Code provided by the SA Government.

The business must capture that data using the SA Government QR Code and system, and utilise a paper based system as a backup and for those instances where customers do not have a smart-phone, with all records being kept for 28 days.

The legal requirement to actually scan and use the QR Code rests with the customer. The business does not have to enforce scanning, just ensure that the QR Code is placed in a prominent position near the entry.

Staff will also be required to check in with the QR Code when arriving onto the site.
