Following a tank fire incident in 2019 triggered while workers were cutting a diesel tank with an oxy torch and a similar recent incident that resulted in a fatality, Worksafe VIC has issued a Safety Alert. The Alert has been issued in the midst of court proceedings from the 2019 incident.
The business has been charged with a series of OHS breaches relating to a tank fire that occurred at the workplace in Derrimut in May 2019, wherein two workers were welding using an oxy torch in the tank when diesel fumes from the tank ignited, resulting in a fire and evacuation.
The business was charged with breaches including; failing to maintain safe systems of work or provide workers with adequate information, instruction or training; failure to notify Worksafe of an incident.
The case is in the courts at the moment.
