It is with great sadness that we mark the passing of Matt Ramunno, a well-known figure in the fuel retailing industry and Director of the Rampage Group. Matt passed away on Monday, September 9th, 2024, at the age of 78.

Born in Italy, Matt arrived in Australia at the age of three with his family, who settled on a fruit farm near Kyabram, Victoria. His early career began as a diesel mechanic, but in 1973, Matt took a bold step into fuel retailing by operating his first service station, an Ampol site in the Melbourne suburb of Pascoe Vale. This was the start of an impressive career in the industry.

In 1988, Matt partnered with BP Australia to operate the BP Somerton Oasis Truckstop, forging a relationship with BP that remains strong to this day. Over the years, Matt’s passion, vision, and entrepreneurial spirit grew the Rampage Group into a vast network that spans all mainland Australian states, including two fuel distribution businesses.

Even at the time of his passing, Matt remained fully involved in the day-to-day operations of the business, a testament to his unwavering dedication and love for the industry. His passing leaves behind a lasting legacy of integrity, leadership, and innovation in the fuel retailing sector.

Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with Matt’s wife, Gabriella, his sons Tony, Paul, Ben, and their families during this difficult time.

His presence and contribution will be sorely missed, but his impact on the industry and those who knew him will not be forgotten.
