At the annual Retailer Meeting Metro Petroleum Retailers came together to learn, network and focus on growth.

Kicking off early with a jam packed set of business sessions, delegates were welcomed by event MC and Project Development Manager for Metro Charlie Nasser

before Elie Dib National Sales and Retail Manager for Metro outlined the importance of learning as a group to take the network to the next level of success.

Andrew Sylvester National Buying Group Manager at Metro, led a Supplier Q&A with;
Rocco Giaquinto, National Account Manager, Suntory Oceania
Paul Worrall, State Manager, Asahi Beverages
Michelle Nicholson, Key Account Manager, Coca-Cola Europacific Partners
– (and there in spirit and data while at home sick Brodie Bryant , National Account Manager Convenience, Bega Group).

The panel explored the importance of the beverage category to success –  water, milk, juice, carbonated and energy. Key message is that even in this hero category it is vital to really stick to layout and plannogram and to push the combo bundles to ensure the customers are presented with the most optimised and appealing offering based on current SKUs and seasons. A clean, stocked and compliant fridge or shelf engages and entices customers…and while it might feel counter-intuitive combo deals are increasing unplanned incremental sales not cannibalising planned bogof sales.

Andy Gregory, Director Chanel Performance, Ipsos, provided delegates with the latest network and industry performance data and the opportunities in the network for growth and consistency in brand expression and customer experience. With 63% of customer willing to pay more for a better customer experience, great execution onsite, particularly on cleanliness and staff presentation ans engagement, translates quickly into sales and over time into loyal customers. The key takeaway is QLD are nailing it…and that can’t be allowed to stand (iykyk) :)

Justin Rea, National Retail Operations Manager for Metro, built on the insights from Andy taking sites through the 10 core things that lead to customer and business success and the new site visit tool rolling out through the network.

Ant Middleton, former British SAS, media personality and entrepreneur provided delegates with insight into his unique and impressive personal and professional story. Key message is that there is not an obstacle that you can’t go over under or through…it just takes a willingness to be open to opportunities and the grit to push for the ones you want…there is a pathway, but sometimes you have to push past your own comfort and limits to find it…or create it.

Ant also exposed delegates to his new functional beverage R3SUP which has been engineered to resupply heart body and mind with the vitamins and minerals we are deficient in to provide energy throughout day.

Energised the delegates at the Metro Petroleum Retailer Meeting were focused as the session continued without pause and the learning continued.

Australasian Convenience and Petroleum Marketers Association (ACAPMA)s Elisha Radwanowski provided delegates with an update on the Employment Compliance Program.

Daniel Nassif, Senior Account Executive, Till Payments/Nuvei, provided delegates with an update on the rollout of the new payment terminals and the surcharge management offer in the context of the updated payment laws, before outlining the new fraud prevention elements in the system.

Rugby League legend and media personality Braith Anasta, treated delegates to an open and enlightening discussion about leadership and the different needs different people and generations need to be their best as well as the more challenging areas of dealing with conflict, issues and losses.

Michael Husband, Director of Oracle Petroleum, took delegates through the critical HSSE standards in the light of differing inspection and incident outcomes and unveiled the custom system developed to assist sites in demonstrating compliance to regulators onsite.

Sid from Service Master Solutions brought home the learning line up when he unveiled the new cleaning program to the network.

The business sessions concluded with an event wrap up from Elie Dib before delegates headed to the Trade Show.

The Trade Show at the Metro Petroleum Retailer Meeting was packed with retailers and suppliers catching up, exploring NPD and working together to deliver exceptional convenience experiences for customers.

The event wrapped up with a generous dinner where the conversation and fun was flowing well into the night as delegates and suppliers caught up in a more relaxed setting after a long day of learning.
