Yesterday, the Department of Government Services announced the commencement date for the Fair Fuel Plan Phase 2. Phase 1 of the Fair Fuel Plan is in effect now and requires fuel retailers to report current fuel prices to the Government App. Phase 2 refers to the requirement for fuel retailers to nominate and lock in a price for 24 hours, during which time the price can decrease but not increase.
Phase 2 will come into effect on Tuesday 10 March 2026, immediately following the Labour Day public holiday. The commencement date was proclaimed and gazetted on the eve of Christmas.
At the last industry forum, the Department only said that the full implementation of Phase 2 would not come into effect before the end of the January school holidays.
In subsequent one-on-one meetings, ACAPMA urged the Department to give retailers the longest possible time to set themselves up for full compliance with the Phase 2 requirements in the context of the busiest retail season of the year.
While many concerns remain regarding the Victoria’s Fair Fuel Plan, ACAPMA welcomes the adjusted timing of the implementation of Fair Fuel Plan Phase 2.
