The Australian fuel and convenience industry is a vital part of our national infrastructure — one that quietly powers the daily lives of millions of Australians. From the businesses that wholesale and transport fuel to key businesses operating in key sectors like Mining and Agriculture to the more than 8000 petrol stations that service the needs of everyday Australians, our industry employs more than 65,000 hardworking Australians working in over 4,500 businesses.

Each year, the ACAPMA Fuel & Convenience Awards (AFCA) seek to shine a spotlight on the outstanding contributions made by businesses and individuals across the industry. In 2026, we are once again proud to open nominations for these prestigious national awards — and we are calling on all fuel businesses in our industry (members and non-members alike) to put forward the businesses and people that make a real difference.

We invite the industry to take the opportunity to highlight those driving excellence programs in their businesses and to join us at the ACAPMA Conference 2026 where we will be celebrating 50 years of delivering for the fuel industry.

What are the ACAPMA Fuel & Convenience Awards?

The AFCA program is designed to formally recognise business excellence within the Australian fuel and convenience sector. These awards seek to recognise organisations that quietly demonstrate exceptional leadership in compliance, workplace safety, innovation, and sustainability.

AWARD CATEGORIES

With industry segment and support categories including;

  • Retailer – Fuel of the Year Award (small and large)
  • Distributor – Fuel/Convenience Distributor of the Year Award
  • Supplier – Equipment and Services Supplier of the Year Award

In addition to the industry segment excellence awards, the ACAPMA Awards include the coveted Marg Taylor Memorial Award for Community Spirit.

The Marg Taylor Community Spirit Award is designed to recognize fuel businesses that have demonstrated exceptional leadership and contribution to the local communities in which they operate. They don’t make a fuss about what they do, but they quietly work in the background to support community organisations, sporting clubs and charitable works within their local communities. Others demonstrate exceptional tenacity and resilience in supporting their communities during natural disasters by being “last to close and first to open”.

The Award is named in memory of ACAPMA/APADA employee Ms Margaret Taylor, fondly remembered as “Marg”.

Marg Taylor served, guided, protected and defended the APADA and ACAPMA members for over 35 years (from 1979 to 2014).  An expert with a sharp wit, a fast laugh and a passion for her beloved Sydney Swans, Marg was the midwife of the Association (though she hated when she was called that) and was instrumental in the industry shaping Laidley dispute that shaped the operation of employment and trade practices law in this country. Marg passed away in December 2022.

INDEPENDENT JUDGES

The ACAPMA Awards are independently judged and awarded by a panel of expert judges that are 100% external to the industry.  A truly arms length process that ensures awards based on the merits of the applications without industry bias.

When reviewing the applications, the judges provide an aggregates score based on weighted criteria in each segment; Criteria 1 – Excellence in compliance (30%), Criteria 2 – Health and Safety in the workplace (40%), Criteria 3 – Innovation (20%), Criteria 4 – Sustainability (10%).

AWARDS ELIGIBILITY AND BENEFITS

The ACAPMA Fuel & Convenience Awards are open to all fuel industry participants and suppliers.  There is no requirement for the Award applicant to be an ACAPMA Member.

All Finalists for each category will be provided with two free tickets to the ACAPMA Gala Awards Dinner.

AWARD TIMELINE

The ACAPMA Fuel & Convenience Awards are conducted as part of the annual ACAPMA Conference.

The 2026 AFCA process is underway, and interested businesses should take note of the key dates:

  • Nominations will close at 5pm (Sydney time) on Friday, 17 July 2026.
  • Following the close of nominations, entries will be assessed and shortlisted by the judging panel throughout July and August.
  • Finalists in each award category will be publicly announced in early September.
  • Winners will be revealed at the 2026 Awards Gala Dinner on Wednesday 9 September 2026 at The Plaza Ballroom in Melbourne – a night that promises to bring together the leaders, innovators, and changemakers of the fuel and convenience industry.
